Description
8
Seward, Alaska / Anchorage, Alaska Enjoy the morning in lovely Seward, a picturesque fishing village on lovely Resurrection Bay. Take a walk into town for shopping or opt for an optional tour. Then meet your Tour Director, board your luxury motor coach and sightsee along the Seward Highway, a National Scenic Byway to Anchorage. Transfer to your hotel for a night's stay in Alaska's largest city.
9
Anchorage, Alaska / Prudhoe Bay, Alaska Have breakfast and transfer to the Anchorage International Airport. Fly across the Arctic Circle to the community of Deadhorse on Prudhoe Bay. You'll see the sights on an afternoon tour that takes in the oil fields and production wells that feed the TransAlaska Pipeline. Imagine life at this secluded outpost on the shores of the Arctic Ocean - the North Slope of the Brooks Range is a polar desert with precipitation comparable to Earth's driest regions.
10
Prudhoe Bay, Alaska / Coldfoot, Alaska Today your Dalton Highway adventure begins. Affectionately called the North Slope Haul Road, it was built to aid in the construction of the pipeline that you can see snaking along the highway on its way to the port of Valdez. Your route skirts Gates of the Arctic National Park - four times the size of Yellowstone - and crosses over the scenic headland of the ancient Brooks Range at Atigun Pass on the Continental Divide. Watch for members of the famed Porcupine Caribou Herd as you travel to Coldfoot. This tiny outpost sits at the mouth of Slate Creek on the east bank of the Middle Fork of the Koyukuk River, population 13. Overnight in Coldfoot in the Land of the Midnight Sun.
11
Coldfoot, Alaska / Fairbanks, Alaska After breakfast, the motor coach drive continues along the Dalton Highway and crosses the Arctic Circle. A photo stop at the famed Arctic Circle sign makes for a great souvenir of your trip. Then continue across the mighty Yukon River and take in the abundant wildlife. You're likely to see everything from marmot, squirrels and porcupine to huge, thousand-pound moose foraging at the edge of thickets where they can duck back into the brush if spooked. Arriving in Fairbanks, Alaska's "golden heart" city, you'll check into your downtown hotel.
12
Fairbanks, Alaska / Denali, Alaska Board the McKinley Explorer luxury domed rail car and enjoy an optional breakfast onboard. Take in the sights of this, an Alaska Scenic Byway. Sit back and relax in the observation lounge and watch magnificent scenery glide by. You'll arrive and check into your comfortable room. This afternoon will find you exploring Denali National Park. Your Tundra Wilderness Tour travels deep into the park for great wildlife viewing - caribou, moose, grizzly, wolves and Dall sheep are frequently sighted - plus dramatic Mt. McKinley viewpoints. Tonight, stroll the Nenana River-view trail and enjoy the accommodations at your inviting lodge, the finest at the park.
13
Denali, Alaska / Anchorage, Alaska Wake up to a morning at leisure for relaxing at your lodge or exploring your surroundings on an optional tour. Then re-board the McKinley Explorer for the continuation of your rail journey. Optional lunch and dinner are available to enhance your sightseeing experience. Soak in the magnificent views as you cross the Hurricane Gulch Bridge and glide from one mountain, forest and river scene to another. Arrive in Anchorage where the city backs up to a stunning skyline of mountains. This may be Alaska's largest and most cosmopolitan city, but moose are known to wander into the suburbs and true wilderness is at the back door. Say "good-bye" to your Tour Director, reliving the memories of your trip.
14
Anchorage, Alaska Your tour ends this morning and you will be transferred to the Anchorage airport for your flight home.

Cruise Portion
Vancouver, British Columbia
In Vancouver, you never lose sight of the spectacular mountains or the glimmering sea. It is a prosperous city, with flowers adorning the streets and the lush greenery of Stanley Park, the third-largest urban park in the world, beckoning to travellers and locals alike. Museums offer fine collections of dramatic Northwest Native arts. Vancouver's Chinatown is the second largest in the world. Gastown, the waterfront district, recalls the city's colorful past as a premier port since the days of the Clipper ships.
Come see the natural beauties of Vancouver, which captured the prestigous title of the 2010 Winter Olympics' Host City.
Stretching from the Canadian border in the south, to the start of the Gulf of Alaska in the north, the Inside Passage runs through the area known as Southeast Alaska, just below Glacier Bay National Park. In the spring, the passage is blanketed with wildflowers and the whales are migrating. Come fall, the landscape is ablaze with fall foliage and the bald eagles are gathering. No matter what time of the season you choose to cruise, one can expect to see spectacular scenery, bountiful wildlife, picturesque Native cultures, amazing history and exceptional hospitality.
Ketchikan is the salmon capital of the world. The canneries are busy and the stream below Creek Street's rustic boardwalk bustles with life. Visit the ancient grove of Totem Bight, the largest collection of authentic totem poles anywhere. Make a flight to nearby Misty Fjords--a breathtaking vista of Alaska's unspoiled wilderness and America's newest national monument; or try a little salmon fishing.
Accessible only by air or sea, Alaska's capital is surprisingly urban and cultured for such a remote destination. When you arrive by sea, you will be greeted dockside by numerous flags and an abundance of summer flowers. For further insight into the Inuit culture and crafts, visit the museum. Take the short drive to Mendenhall Glacier, the only glacier inside city limits! Take a helicopter ride for an amazing aerial view of Juneau and area, or go fishing for silver salmon. Then, just kick back and relax with a cool one at the famous and colorful Red Dog Saloon.
Skagway was born during the great Klondike gold rush. Those were the days when Skagway had 80 saloons and was known as "the roughest town on earth". The city's rip-roaring past will come alive when you walk down Broadway, a main street so authentic it is part of the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park!
Preserved as a National Monument, Glacier Bay exists as an extraordinary collection of glaciers in a contained region. Only two ships per day are permitted to enter the bay during the summer months, which is when whales come here to feed. Hundreds of years ago, the ice in Glacier Bay fell as snow on the icefields in the mountains above.
Compressed by its own tremendous weight, the ice slowly flows through valleys to the sea, where in some cases, it breaks off in great chunks, called "calves", to float free as icebergs and "bergy bits".
College Fjord is truly one of the most visited fjords on Alaskan cruise itineraries. A total of sixteen glaciers line the 20-mile long fjord, all named after renowned colleges on the east coast of the United States. Once you have cruised through the fjord, you can honestly tell people that you went to Harvard, Yale or Wellsley. Perhaps slightly overshadowed by more spectacular glaciers, College Fjord is as scenic as fjords come and won't disappoint avid glacier fans.
The historic fishing village of Seward is encircled by the Kenai Wildlife Refuge, Alaska Maritime National Refuge, Chugach National Forest, and Kenai Fjords National Park. Seabirds, otters, whales and other wildlife thrive in nearby Resurrection Bay. Seward is named after William Seward, who negotiated the purchase of Alaska from Russia in 1867 for just under two cents an acre.
An Alaska adventure begins in Anchorage. The majestic mountains, glistening glaciers and crystal-clear streams and lakes beckon for exploration. Explore the rich culture of Alaska's first people and feel their pride. Savor the taste of fresh Alaska seafood. Cosmopolitan Anchorage is a city that has its own symphony and ballet, while offering rugged wilderness only minutes away. Art enthusiasts will enjoy the Anchorage Museum of History and Art, as well as many other galleries. Shoppers will discover unique native Alaskan arts and crafts. Anchorage is the place to tap into your sense of adventure!
Just 90 miles south of the Arctic Circle, Fairbanks is known as the "golden heart" of Alaska. Founded on the banks of the Chena River in 1901, the town's colorful gold-rush history comes to life in its working gold mines and on the riverboat cruise.
Shopping includes gold nugget jewelry and Native handicrafts from the Interior, such as beaded slippers and gloves, birch-bark baskets and porcupine quill jewelry.
Stunningly beautiful and rich in wildlife, Denali National Park consists of six million acres of coniferous forest and open tundra. Looming high above the valleys is the 20,320 ft. Mount McKinley, commonly known as Denali, meaning literally, "The High One". It is the highest peak in North America. If you are fortunate enough to be there on a clear day, you can expect to see Dall sheep high on the hillsides and grizzlies fishing for salmon in the icy-cold streams of the park.
